Subject Spotlights
From now on, the LRC will produce a new weekly feature called 'Subject Spotlights'. Every Wednesday, the LRC will aim to broaden the horizons and enlighten students by focusing on different subjects. Extended reading texts and materials for different courses will be highlighted.
Our #SubjectSpotlight will appear across the LRC social media outlets, so you can keep up to date with the platform of your choice; from Blogger and Facebook to Twitter and Pinterest.

Raise a cheer for Edward Lear
Observed annually on May 12, National Limerick Day celebrates the birthday of English artist, illustrator, author and poet Edward Lear (May 12, 1812 – Jan. 29, 1888). Lear is known mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry, prose and limericks.
National Limerick Day also celebrates the limerick poem. Limerick poems were popularised by Edward Lear’s book “Book of Nonsense” in 1846.
A limerick is a very short, humorous, nonsense poem. Within a limerick, there are five lines. The first two lines rhyme with the fifth line and the third and fourth line rhyme together.
The Limerick also has a particular rhythm which is officially described as anapestic trimeter. Why not sit down and write a few limericks of your own. Use #NationalLimerickDay to post on social media.
THERE WAS A YOUNG LADY By Edward Lear
There was a Young Lady whose chin
Resembled the point of a pin;
So she had it made sharp,
and purchased a harp,
And played several tunes with her chin.

We Need You, You, You!
The LRC is currently recruiting for new volunteer student librarians to join the LRC Team.
For any Year 12 students interested in volunteering in the library, this is an ideal opportunity to gain work experience alongside studying for A-Levels, which can be used on your personal statement for university or when compiling your CV and moving into full time employment.
Job descriptions and application forms can be picked up from the LRC Helpdesk. For more information or to register your interest, please contact Leane Kinsella as soon as possible.
The deadline for applications is on Friday 9th June 2017 and interviews for candidates will be scheduled for the week commencing Monday 12th June 2017. It is expected that successful applicants will begin LRC training during the week following interviews.
